Many factors will affect admission into universities in 2012/2013 session. Some of these factors will be discuss below. Please note that the list is not exhaustive. We will be adding others to this article with time.

JAMB Exam Date
The 2012 JAMB UTME has been schedule for March 24th 2012. Now the implication of this is that there will not be enough time to prepare for the exam. Because of this, less people are likely going to cross the 200 cut-off mark making them ineligible to write post UTME in their choice universities. This development will likely force more universities to set simpler exam questions for post UTME. However, this year admission will be survival of the fittest because majority of those that will pass will be on merit. So, if you are going to make it in 2012 admission, you have to look beyond JAMB UTME. Remember, I always say early preparation is the key to admission success. Be warned!

Interval between Jamb and Post UTME Exam Date

In recent years, most universities write their post Jamb around August and September. Now Jamb has fixed their exam in March. That means some universities will push their PUME screening backword. Don’t forget too that Jamb usually releases their result one week after the exam. That means by March ending, the result must have been out. This implies that most universities will conduct their post JAMB by June or July. This means there will be little time to prepare for PUTME. I foresee a situation where many successful candidates will be caught unaware. My recommendation is that as you prepare for JAMB, also try and prepare for post UTME. Who say you cannot kill two birds with one stone? More information will be made available on post UTME preparation on our website for those on the VAIC project.

Preparation Level
The early months of 2012 has come with a lot of distractions. Celebrations like New Year, Valentine, Esther and other holidays will likely take some applicants away from their concentration. For an applicant to be successful in this regard, early preparation is important. Applicants need to be diligent and focus. We encourage all applicants to attend extra-moral, classes. This will not only encourage preparation but also concentration. Since there will be little interval between Jamb exam and post JAMB, it will be appropriate for applicants to be diligent in their study. Look beyond the Jamb exam and use the same opportunity to prepare for post exam. Remember, he who fails to prepare should prepare to fail.

Strikes and Subsidy Protest
The ASUU strike has grounded activities in many Universities. Many schools are likely going to be rounding up their second semester. Many JAMB applicants cannot obtain information from their prospective universities because they and on strike. Unfortunately, the JAMB brochure and these universities websites are not up-to-date. The NLC strike coupled with the protest that follows has made it difficult for many JAMB candidates to attend extra-mural classes at the right time. The protest too has resulted in distractions.

Other factors that will shake 2012 admission will be added to this article from time to time. So, we encourage you to check back again and again. However, if you want SMS notification on timely admission information, subscribe to the VAIC project.

Have you ever wanted to be able to contact somebody in your choice institution but were unable?
Have you ever wanted to be able to get cut-off mark, admission and examination date but were unable?
Do you know there is new admission policy from NUC and JAMB for 2012/2013 sesion?
Do you know that admission success and failure start from application for Olevel and JAMB?

Dear Prospective Nigeria Students,

Statistics and surveys show that every year thousands of Nigeria students miss admission simply because of lack of orientation, adequate preparation and timely information.
Four factors are responsible for admission success and failure into Nigeria universities namely Orientation, Information, Preparation and Connection. Let’s carry out a mathematical module on these factors. Suppose we assign a numeric value of 1 to 26 to the alphabets i.e. a=1, b=2, c=3,…y=25, z=26, we will arrive at:

Orientation = 15+18+9+5+14+20+1+20+9+15+14=140
Information = 9+14+6+15+18+13+1+20+9+15+14=134
Preparation = 16+18+5+16+1+18+1+20+9+15+14=133
Connection = 3+15+14+14+5+3+20+9+15+14=112

From the Mathematical analysis, orientation contributes a total of 140 i.e. 27% to your admission, information 134 i.e. 25.8%, Preparation 133 i.e. 25.6% and Connection 112 i.e. 21.6%. Three of these factors are external while only one (preparation) is internal i.e. depend on you. The reason why many students – even the brilliant ones – miss admission into universities is that they can only control one quarter of the factors that contribute to their success. As you can see, connection contributes the least 21.6% to your admission.

Inline with our objective to make sure that all Nigeria prospective and existing students get instant updates that will ensure their admission and academic success, we are introducing …

Varsities Admission Information Center Project

The Varsities Admission Information Center (VAIC) Project is an innovative project design to address the major causes of admission failure into Nigeria universities. The project focuses on providing orientation, adequate preparation and timely information pertinent to admission. These alone will account for over 75% of your admission success. We may also be able to link you with the right person (connection) in your choice most preferred university. Our objective is to ensure that subscribers to the VAIC project have full access to orientation, information, materials and human resources needed for admission into their choice universities.

The 2011 edition of JAMB UTME has come and gone. Survey shows that while there are lots of inconsistencies associated with the conduct of the examination, it has been given a pass mark. The question on the lip of many candidates is what is next after JAMB? Let me mention categorically that JAMB exam is just a step in many leading to your success in admission. There are other steps that are necessary for you to secure your admission. These steps will be discussed below.

Checking of Result
In last year JAMB UTME, checking of result was free. This year too you can be able to check your result freely on the internet by going to www.jambutme.com/unifiedtme Enter your registration number and check your result. However, checking of result is not up now but the procedure describe above will allow you to check your result when it is up. JAMB also promises to send result via SMS especially for those who subscribe to their SMS alert during registration. Going by this you do not need to buy a card to check your result, all you need is your registration number.
However there is one card they use for printing original result slip. But this is usually printed after a person has been offered an admission in a university. Further instructions will be provided later.

Change of Institution(s)
A lot of factors may make it necessary for a candidate to change the institution they initially applied for. A candidate may score less than 200 and thus be ineligible to apply to a university especially Federal. Or maybe you feel getting admission into a particular university will be harder or easier. Whatever reason there is, note that change of institution is done immediately Jamb release the result. Usually, it takes two to three weeks for the application to close so you have to act fast. You can get the card in any Jamb office close to you or other vendors. The card usually cost about N1700. If you are going to use the card, you have to be very careful since you can only use it once. So, make sure that the network is stable and fast. DO NOT REFRESH THE PAGE DURING THE PROCESSING. Make sure you finish the application and print the acknowledgement slip with your new institution. Make sure you print it. It is very important.

Correction of Data
Some applicants made mistake with their personal data such as names. If you pass your JAMB and make it through your post utme you can buy change of name form. However, it is not advisable to do that before you are sure of admission.

Post UTME Application and Preparation
Most universities conduct post utme examination for candidates who apply to their universities. Usually you must have score 200 or above to be eligible to write the post utme exam. Statistics have shown that many who made it through JAMB could not make it through post utme. A lot of preparation needs to go in before one can make it through with post utme. There is something you have to keep in mind before applying for post UTME exam. Most universities allow applicants to choose two course while applying for post utme. Your second choice may influence chance of admission. Interestingly JAMB has made it possible for you to be able to check how many candidates apply for a particular course in your choice institution. This will enable you to know how competitive your choice course will be. It will also help you to know what course to put as second choice.

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, yesterday, said there was no change in date for the conduct of its 2011 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, examination slated for tomorrow across the country and in six foreign countries.

A total of 1, 493, 603 candidates who registered for the 2011 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, will sit for the examination.

Spokesperson of JAMB, Mr. Timothy Oyedeji, who stated this while reacting to reports that tomorrow’s examination coincided with the Nigerian Army recruitment examination, said the Board was not aware of any examination being conduct by the Army same day.

Oyedeji said: “JAMB is not changing the date of its examination because of the Army’s recruitment examination; Army examination is not a regular or scheduled examination.

“JAMB is not aware of any Army examination and, therefore, we are going ahead to conduct the examinations for our candidates on Saturday, June 18, 2011.”

According to him, JAMB as a responsible public exam body has positively responded to national calls by shifting UTME for the last general elections and NECO examination cannot afford to shift the date of the exam again.

Meanwhile, there are about 117 universities in the country owned by federal, states and private entities, mainly churches and individuals, spread across the country.

Due to acute shortage of spaces, only about 20 per cent of qualified candidates can be offered admission, leaving the remaining 80 per cent to wait for the next entrance examination.
